What is the Metalico set?
Metalico is a thick decorative paint by the Italian manufacturer Pigio that gives walls a pearlescent, velvet-like sheen, and together with the Primer base coat it forms a complete system for a smooth pearl wall. Thanks to its thick consistency it can be applied like a paint or like a decorative plaster — the finish comes out matte or high-gloss depending on the tool. The coating withstands repeated washing and needs no protective varnish. The effect is touch-dry after 8 hours and reaches full stain resistance after 7 days.

| Feature | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Coverage per 1 l | Venetian trowel 6–10 m², brush or roller 10–20 m², sponge 15–25 m² — one tin is enough even for a whole living-room wall. |
| Washable | Wash the coating repeatedly with no varnish — suitable for homes, hotels and restaurants. |
| Matte or gloss | The same tin gives a matte or high-gloss finish — the tool decides, not another product. |
| Working time | The first coat of Metalico dries in 30 min – 2 h; in practice professionals pause about 20 min between coats. |
| Coats | 1–2 coats are enough; add more to emphasise the texture. |
| Base-coat colour | Metalico shows through — the Primer colour shapes the effect. Pearl Metalico over a light-blue base gives a cloud effect. |
Where does the pearl lime effect work best?
- Living room and bedroom — a smooth pearl wall with a velvet sheen, no texture to collect dust.
- Hotels and restaurants — a coating that withstands repeated washing, without varnish, in public spaces.
- Accent walls — one wall in a different sheen from the rest of the room; matte and gloss from the same product.
- Unconventional pairings — a contrasting base-coat colour under pearl Metalico for advanced users.

What professionals say
- The sponge is the most efficient — up to 25 m² per litre in one coat — and needs no experience.
- With a trowel, Metalico looks best applied diagonally at any constant angle; practise on a test board, e.g. a plasterboard sheet.
- In practice professionals wait 3–4 h for the Primer to dry, although 6–8 h is recommended.
- Professionals often add an extra 1 l of Primer to each set.

Frequently asked questions
How many m² does the Metalico set cover?
With 1 l of Metalico you cover 6–10 m² with a Venetian trowel, 10–20 m² with a brush or roller and 15–25 m² with a sponge, in 1–2 coats. The calculator on this page gives the exact number of sets.
How long does Metalico take to dry?
The first coat dries in about 30 min – 2 h. The effect is touch-dry after 8 hours and reaches full stain resistance after 7 days.
Can I do a smooth pearl wall myself?
Yes — sponge application needs no experience. With a trowel, practise first on a plasterboard sheet, applying Metalico diagonally at a constant angle. The video above shows the whole process in 55 seconds.
Is Metalico suitable for a hotel or restaurant?
Yes. The coating withstands repeated washing and needs no varnish, so it works both at home and in public spaces.
How do I choose a colour and can I return the paint?
Pick a colour from the chart and we tint the paint by machine to your order — that is why tinted colours are non-returnable. Colour chart photos are for reference and may differ from reality due to monitor settings. Primer and Metalico can also be tinted yourself with ordinary paint pigments.
Do I need the Primer base coat?
Yes — Metalico shows through, so the base-coat colour shapes the effect. Apply Primer with a roller, brush or spray; 6–8 h drying before Metalico is recommended, in practice professionals wait 3–4 h.
Matte or gloss — what decides?
The tool. The same paint gives a matte or high-gloss finish depending on whether you apply it with a trowel, sponge or roller.
What does a contrasting base-coat colour give?
The most popular unconventional pairing is pearl Metalico over light-blue Primer — it gives a cloud effect. Advanced users are encouraged to try their own base-coat and decorative-paint colour combinations.
