Steel thickness — where DIY stores cut corners

Buyers love cheap profiles — and a cheap profile usually means thin steel. Thin steel means harder installation (screws strip through) and a less rigid structure:

These are the questions customers ask us most often over the phone.

Which profiles are best for drywall?

The ones that give partition walls and suspended ceilings a stable structure — in short, profiles with 0.6 mm steel. It makes no difference whether it is a ceiling or a wall profile: what counts is the thickness of the profile's steel.

What are the standard lengths of drywall profiles?

Ceiling profiles come in 2.6 m, 3.0 m and 4.0 m. Profiles for building partition walls come in 3 m and 4 m lengths.

How thick should drywall profiles be?

Good profiles start at 0.6 mm. Most customers go by price and choose the price-to-quality compromise, 0.5 mm. DIY superstores have introduced thinner 0.45 mm and 0.4 mm profiles — with those, installation gets harder and the structure less rigid.

Are drywall profiles moisture resistant?

Yes — there are profiles made of moisture-resistant materials, intended for rooms with elevated humidity such as bathrooms and kitchens.

What accessories do I need to install the profiles?

Ceiling profiles need hangers and connectors. Wall profiles need an angle bracket for fixing the door-frame profile plus acoustic tape. All profiles require self-drilling screws to attach the plasterboard and anchors to fix the perimeter profile to the wall and ceiling.

How are the profiles delivered?

Profiles are bulky goods — they cannot be shipped by parcel courier. Within Poland we deliver them with our own transport; lead time is 7–14 days from the order date, as we collect orders to fill a truck heading in a given direction. We do not deliver profiles outside Poland — over that distance the transport stops being economical.
