What you will see in the video (2:57)
The video shows two different methods of applying Klondike Valpaint paint step by step - from the base coat to the finished metallic corrosion effect on the wall. More about the whole Klondike family: Klondike Valpaint family - rust, steel corrosion and metallic antique effects.
Klondike is applied in two ways and you can see both in the video above - they differ in the tool and in how strongly the metallic sheen comes through. Before you order, it is worth watching both and choosing the one that suits your wall.
The calculator on this page converts your area into litres; one litre is a maximum of 6 m². Remember that Klondike goes over a base coat - you buy it separately or take the ready set from Related Products. Treat the colour chart on screen as a guide, not literally - monitor settings change the shade, and with a corrosion effect the differences between shades are subtle.
That is why I recommend borrowing the Klondike colour chart and seeing the colours in real life, in your own light. The paint is tinted to your order, so it is better to decide once, but well.

What is Klondike Valpaint decorative paint?
Klondike is a Valpaint decorative paint that imitates metallic corrosion - descriptions call it a rust effect, but it is closer to corroded steel with an antique-metallic sheen given by special additives.
You apply it over a base coat, indoors and outdoors - outdoors after protecting it with Top Coat varnish. The coating is durable, resistant to washing and to high temperatures, and the paint levels wall unevenness well.
It works not only on walls: it is used to paint joinery, furniture and metal elements, as well as parts of facades as a decorative accent.

| Feature | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Coverage | 1 l of paint covers a maximum of 6 m² - a litre is enough for a living-room wall, and the calculator on this page converts a larger area. You choose the base coat separately. |
| High-temperature resistance | You can paint a fireplace surround or a heated wall - a corrosion effect by the hearth looks natural and does not peel. |
| Washable | You wash the coating without worry, so it suits hallways, kitchens and premises where walls take a beating. |
| Indoors and outdoors | On a facade Klondike needs protecting with Top Coat varnish - then a section of corroded-steel facade survives rain and sun. |
| Not only walls | Joinery, furniture, metal elements - the same effect on a door, a worktop and a wall gives a consistent loft-style interior. |
| Drying times at 20 °C | Surface-dry after 2 hours, second coat after 5-6 hours, final drying after 24 hours - you do the wall in one day and use the room the next. |
Where does the Klondike corrosion effect work best?
- The wall behind a fireplace or a heated wall - high-temperature resistance lets you paint a spot other decorative paints cannot stand.
- Loft or industrial-style living room and bedroom - one wall in corroded steel with a metallic sheen does the whole decor.
- Premises, restaurants, offices - a durable, washable coating and an antique character that does not look "freshly painted".
- Furniture, doors and metal elements - you refresh an old cabinet or a gate to the same effect as the wall.
- Facade - a section of facade, a plinth or a column in a rust effect, after protection with Top Coat varnish.
You will find other rust and metal effects in the decorative wall effects category.
You will find the technical data sheet and application instructions in the downloads at the bottom of the page.
You are buying Klondike paint alone - the ready set with base coat, the base coat itself, the colour chart to borrow, Top Coat varnish and tools are in Related Products below.
Frequently asked questions
How many m² does a litre of Klondike paint cover?
A litre of decorative paint covers a maximum of 6 m². So one litre is enough for a 3 × 2.6 m wall, and the calculator on this page converts a larger area. You also need a base coat - the 6 m² set includes 0.5 l of it.
How long does Klondike paint take to dry?
At 20 °C the surface is dry after 2 hours, you apply the second coat after 5-6 hours, and final drying takes 24 hours. In a cooler room give yourself more time.
Can I do the corrosion effect myself?
Yes - Klondike is easy to apply, and the video above shows two application methods step by step. Choose the one that gives an effect closer to your colour chart and practise it on a small section before you start the whole wall.
Can I paint the wall behind a fireplace?
Yes - Klondike is resistant to high temperatures, so it suits heated walls and fireplace surrounds. Indoors you do not need an extra varnish; on a facade protect the paint with Top Coat varnish.
How do I choose a colour and can I return the paint?
The Klondike palette is on this page, but corrosion shades are subtle and look different on screen than on the wall - so borrow the colour chart before you decide. We tint the paint to your order, so we do not take tinted colours back; the chart is there so that there are no surprises.
What is the difference between the two application methods in the video?
The tool and how strongly the metallic sheen and corrosion texture come through. Both start with a base coat; the difference is in how Klondike is spread. Watch the video to the end - it is easier to choose when you see both effects side by side.
Is Klondike suitable for furniture and metal?
Yes - besides walls it is used to paint joinery, furniture and metal elements. It is a good way to give a door or an old cabinet the same effect as the wall.
