Description

Meteore 14 Grosso Valpaint is a coarse-grained microcement compound and the first layer of the I-Beton Plus system - you lay it right after the epoxy primer, on glass-fibre mesh. With 1 l you cover 1.4-1.6 m², with 4 l 5.6-6.4 m², with 12 l 16.8-18.4 m² in one coat on mesh. You choose the size on this page - 1 L is a pack you can treat as a sample for testing the application and checking the colour in real life.

You pick the colour from the palette on the page, and before you decide you can borrow the colour chart; we tint the compound to the colour you choose from the manufacturer's chart. The calculator converts your area into litres, and the shop team will work out the complete set of materials for the whole system for you - all you need to do is give us the area and the substrate you want to put the microcement on.

What you will see in the video (9:49)

Official Valpaint video showing step by step the application of the I-Beton microcement system on a tiled floor and on a wall: primer, Meteore 14 Grosso on mesh, Meteore 14 Medio and Top Coat varnish. I-Beton can be laid on old tiles and a concrete floor, and on a wall of tiles, concrete and gypsum plaster. System comparison: Valpaint microcement: I-Beton Plus or E-Volution Plus - system comparison.

The I-Beton Plus system consists of several products and is done in four steps: epoxy primer, Meteore 14 Grosso on mesh, two coats of Meteore 14 Medio and Top Coat varnish. We will gladly prepare a quote for you - give us the area of your floors and/or walls and the type of substrate, and the shop team will work out the complete set of materials.

The calculator on this page converts Meteore 14 Grosso alone into 1, 4 or 12 l. Consumption is 0.65-0.75 l/m², so for a bathroom with a 5 m² floor and 15 m² of walls you need roughly 12-15 l. Treat the colour chart on screen as a guide, not literally - monitor settings change the shade.

Before you order Meteore 14 microcement, you can borrow the I-Beton Plus colour chart. I also recommend the 1 l pack as a sample: you will see for yourself how the compound spreads and how it covers the mesh, and you will see the colour in real life, in your own light.

What is Meteore 14 Grosso?

Meteore 14 Grosso is a natural, water-based, coarse-grained compound for interiors - the first layer of microcement in the Valpaint I-Beton Plus system, applied right after the epoxy primer.

It is thicker and has high filling and adhesive properties, so it works on rough concrete walls and floors and on uneven ceramic tiles. It covers glass-fibre mesh excellently, spreads loads evenly and creates a durable, strong, crack-resistant surface.

Grosso gives a strong but raw texture - that is why it is smoothed with 1-2 coats of Meteore 14 Medio, and everything is protected with 1-2 coats of Top Coat epoxy varnish.

Feature What it means for you
Coverage on mesh At 0.65-0.75 l/m², with 1 l you cover 1.4-1.6 m², with 4 l 5.6-6.4 m², with 12 l 16.8-18.4 m² - in one coat, on a smooth substrate. On an uneven substrate count on a little more, because some of the compound goes into filling.
Coarse grain, strong filling Levels rough concrete and grout lines between old tiles, so you do not need a separate levelling filler - Grosso does it for you in one coat.
Covers glass-fibre mesh The mesh disappears into the compound, loads spread evenly and the surface does not crack - Grosso is what gives the whole floor its strength.
Floor and wall with one product Microcement is a compound, not a plaster. With the same Grosso you build the base under the bathroom floor and under the walls, so the whole system bonds the same way.
Drying times The surface is dry after 6 hours, you apply the next coat after 8-12 hours, and the compound fully cures in 18-24 days. The whole I-Beton system hardens after 7 days and after 28 days reaches full resistance to static loads.
Colour from the chart We tint to the colour you choose from the I-Beton Plus palette. You can borrow the chart to see the shade in real life, and buy a litre as a sample.

Where does Meteore 14 Grosso work best?

  • Old tiles on the floor and on the wall - a bathroom renovation without chiselling; Grosso fills grout lines and level differences, and the tiles stay underneath.
  • Rough concrete - a raw concrete floor or wall gets a strong, even base under the decorative coats.
  • Gypsum-plastered walls - the I-Beton system is also laid on plaster, as you can see in the video above.
  • Floors in bathrooms, showers and kitchens - the load-bearing layer on mesh, crack-resistant under load.

You will find complete Valpaint microcement systems in the decorative wall effects category.

You will find the technical data sheet and system instructions in the downloads at the bottom of the page.

You will find Meteore 14 Medio, epoxy primer, mesh, Top Coat varnish and the colour chart to borrow in Related Products below - and if you prefer us to put the system together for you, just give us the area.

Frequently asked questions

How much Meteore 14 Grosso do I need for my floor?

Consumption is 0.65-0.75 l/m² for one coat on mesh. With 1 l you cover 1.4-1.6 m², with 4 l 5.6-6.4 m², with 12 l 16.8-18.4 m². For a bathroom with a 5 m² floor and 15 m² of walls you need roughly 12-15 l. The easiest way is to give us the area and the type of substrate - we will work out the whole system, not just Grosso.

How long does laying microcement take?

Grosso is surface-dry after 6 hours, and you apply the next coat after 8-12 hours, so with the four steps of the system you are realistically looking at a few days of work with breaks for drying. Full curing of the compound takes 18-24 days; the system hardens after 7 days and reaches full load resistance after 28 days.

Can I lay I-Beton myself?

The system consists of four steps: primer, Meteore 14 Grosso on mesh, two coats of Meteore 14 Medio and Top Coat varnish. The video above shows each of them on a tiled floor and on a wall. If you have never worked with microcement, start with a 1 l sample on a small section - you will see how the compound spreads and how it covers the mesh before you order material for the whole room.

Can I lay Meteore 14 Grosso over old tiles in a bathroom?

Yes, and that is one of the most common reasons customers choose I-Beton. Grosso is thicker and has high filling properties, so it levels grout lines and bonds to ceramic tiles and concrete - on the floor and on the wall. The product is intended for interiors.

How do I choose a colour and what if I get it wrong?

The I-Beton Plus palette is on this page, but the shade on screen depends on your monitor, so before you decide it is worth borrowing the colour chart or ordering a litre as a sample. The compound is prepared to your order, so we do not take tinted colours back - the sample and the chart are there so that there are no surprises.

What is the glass-fibre mesh for?

Mesh embedded in Grosso spreads loads evenly, which makes the floor durable, strong and crack-resistant. Grosso covers it excellently, so after smoothing with Medio there is no trace of it.

What is the difference between Meteore 14 Grosso and Meteore 14 Medio?

Grosso has a coarser grain and builds a strong, raw base on mesh - it is the load-bearing layer. Medio is finer: it smooths that base and carries the colour in two finishing coats. You need both, and Top Coat varnish on top.

Important: we tint the compound to individual order, so colours prepared to order are non-returnable. The colour chart to borrow and the 1 l sample are there so that you see the colour in real life before you order material for the whole room.
