Description
Setavel is a water-based Valpaint decorative paint with a matte silk-effect finish - one litre covers 4-5 m² with two coats.
You buy the paint alone, tinted to your order from the sample board; you choose the tin size on the variant list, and work out the quantity for your area with the calculator on this page.
The paint alone or a ready-made set with primer?
If you are starting from a bare wall, the simplest route is the set with Primer 1200 - and the paint, the primer and the sample-board catalogue are also sold separately. Click a tile to go straight to the product.

A short guide shows the application of the Setavel Valpaint silk effect from the first to the second coat: the first coat with trowel strokes in different directions, and the second coat laid in leopard spots.
Setavel does not shine - its effect is a soft, matte movement of texture that shifts gently with the viewing angle. That is why you should judge the shade on a real sample, in the light of the room you are going to paint. Questions about the colour or the quantity? Write or call us.
What is Setavel decorative paint?
Setavel Valpaint is a water-based decorative paint for interiors that gives a matte silk-effect finish, soft to the touch. It lends rooms an understated, modern elegance, enriching the surface with a delicate, refined movement. It is an easy-to-apply finishing coat: you lay it with a Venetian trowel in two coats onto a wall primed with Primer 1200, and once fully cured it forms a vapour-permeable coating with good resistance to normal wear.
What Setavel paint gives you
| Feature | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Coverage of 4-5 m² per litre with two coats | You can work out the paint for any area - from a single wall to a whole room. |
| A matte finish with a silk effect | A soft-to-the-touch, understated surface instead of gloss - elegance that does not overwhelm the interior. |
| Two trowel coats, 3-4 hours apart | You finish the whole application in one day. |
| Ready to use | No measuring of water - colour and consistency are the same in every tin. |
| A vapour-permeable coating once fully cured | The wall breathes, and the decoration stands up well to normal wear. |
| Tinted from the Valpaint sample board | We prepare the colour to your order - check the shade first on the borrowed sample-board catalogue. |
How to work with Setavel
- Check and clean the base. It must be stable and free of dust, wax, grease, silicone, soap and other contaminants that weaken adhesion. Strip loose or flaking old paint and wash the wall with a suitable agent, and do plaster repairs before priming.
- Prime with Primer 1200 - by roller, brush or sprayer - and give it 6 hours at 20°C.
- First coat: a PV 43 stainless steel trowel and strokes of varying length in all directions.
- Second coat after 3-4 hours: irregular spots, and after covering about 1 m², filling the gaps with short, overlapping, criss-crossing trowel strokes.
Where Setavel looks its best
This is a paint for interiors meant to be elegant without shine:
- the wall behind the bed in a bedroom - where the matte silk calms the interior;
- living and dining rooms, painted throughout or with one feature wall;
- studies and home offices, which the understated texture gives character;
- larger areas, where you calculate the paint separately because you already have the primer.
You will find the other paints from this group in the Decorative Paints category.
The application instructions and the colour catalogue are in the downloadable files at the bottom of this page.

Frequently asked questions about Setavel paint
How many litres of Setavel do I need for my wall?
Count on 4-5 m² per litre with two coats. A 12 m² wall therefore takes about 3 litres of paint, and 20 m² about 4-5 litres. The calculator on this page gives the exact result for your area and chosen colour.
Does Setavel need a primer?
Yes - the paint works in a system with Primer 1200, which you apply with a roller, a brush or a sprayer, moving on to Setavel after 6 hours at 20°C. The primer is sold separately, and if you are starting from scratch, the set with both components already calculated is more convenient - the first tile above leads to it.
How does Setavel differ from Valsetin 2?
Both give a silk effect, but with a different finish: Setavel is matte and soft to the touch, while Valsetin 2 has a satin finish with a pearly sheen. If the wall is meant to calm rather than shine, choose Setavel.
How do I get the silky movement on the wall?
You spread the first coat with a stainless steel trowel in strokes of varying length in all directions. The second goes on after 3-4 hours in irregular spots, and you fill the gaps between them with short, criss-crossing trowel strokes - this stage builds the effect. We show the whole movement in the video above.
Does Setavel need diluting?
No, the paint is ready to use straight from the tin - just open it and work with a Venetian trowel.
How long from the first coat to a finished wall?
3-4 hours pass between the coats at 20°C, so you can lay both in one day. Full drying takes 24 hours and full surface curing 15 days - in a cooler room all the times get longer.
How do I look after a wall painted with Setavel?
Do not wash the wall for the first 15 days. After that the coating is moderately washable - remove marks gently with a soft, slightly damp sponge, without scrubbing, so as not to leave streaks or discolouration. Once cured, the coating is vapour-permeable and stands up well to normal wear.
How do I choose the colour, given the paint cannot be returned?
We tint Setavel to individual order from the Valpaint sample board, so mixed-to-order products are not returnable. You can browse the colour tiles on this page, but it is safer to borrow the Setavel sample-board catalogue with real colours and texture and check the shade in your own light - the last tile above leads to it.
Setavel is tinted to your individual order, so under Polish consumer law (art. 38.1.3 of the Consumer Rights Act) tinted paint cannot be returned. Before ordering, check the shade on the sample-board catalogue and calculate the quantity with the calculator on this page.
Sample board photographs are for illustration only and may differ slightly from the real colours, which is affected by monitor and graphics card settings.
