A step-by-step guide to applying Valsetin decorative paint by Valpaint - practical tips and the spatula technique. The producer itself recommends watching the video of your chosen effect carefully before you start the work.
The producer itself recommends watching the video of your chosen effect carefully before the work - do it before you order the colour, because the silky pattern comes from the way the spatula is guided, and it is worth knowing what you are agreeing with the wall to. Look at the shade under the light the room actually lives in, because the pearly sheen changes the play of colour with the lighting.
What is Valsetin 2 decorative paint?
Valsetin 2 is a water-based decorative paint with pearly pigments and new-generation resins that recreates the effect of silk fabric on the wall - with a subtle sheen and gently shifting shades. You apply it with a stainless steel spatula, as standard in a single coat, onto a wall primed with Primer 400 tinted to the chosen colour. Once fully hardened, it forms an elastic, breathable coating resistant to impacts and normal abrasion. The product is ready to use - it just needs mixing well before the work.

Frequently asked questions about Valsetin 2
How many square metres does a tin cover?
The coverage is 7-9 m² per litre with a single coat applied by spatula, and the paint comes in 1 l, 2.5 l and 4 l tins. Work out the exact quantity for your area and effect with the calculator on this page.
How many coats go on, and how long does it dry?
One as standard - the silk effect is built by the way you guide the spatula, not by the number of coats, though you can lay more depending on the intended effect. Surface drying takes about 2 hours at 20°C, over-painting is possible after 4-6 hours, and drying in depth takes 24 hours.
Which primer goes under Valsetin 2?
Primer 400, tinted before application to your chosen Valsetin 2 colour - that way the undercoat works towards the final effect instead of showing through white. On absorbent surfaces the first coat of primer is diluted by half with water as a fixative, and the second goes on undiluted. You will find the primer in the tile above.
Can I manage the application myself?
The paint goes on in a thin layer with a stainless steel spatula, and the silky pattern comes from criss-cross strokes in all directions. The producer itself recommends watching the video of the effect technique carefully before starting the work - you will find it above.
Will Valsetin 2 survive a restaurant or a hotel?
Yes, that is its natural habitat. Once fully hardened it forms an elastic coating resistant to impacts and normal abrasion, as well as to dirt, washing and intensive scrubbing - which is why it works in restaurants, bars and hotels, where walls work hardest, without losing its elegant look or depth of colour.
Is this paint safe for rooms people live in?
Valsetin 2 has an A+ emission class (TVOC below 1 mg/m³), a volatile organic compound content of at most 6.6 g/l against the EU limit of 200 g/l, and it releases no formaldehyde. On top of that, the hardened coating is breathable, so it does not seal the wall off from air.
At what temperature do I work, and how do I store the paint?
Application between +10°C and +30°C, and the paint should be mixed well before use. Keep the tin tightly closed, also after opening, at a temperature between +5°C and +30°C - in a properly sealed container the product keeps for about 2 years. You wash the tools with water and soap right after the work.
How do I choose the colour, and can I return the paint?
You can browse the sample-board tiles on this page, download the colour catalogue from the files section, and borrow the physical Valsetin sample-board catalogue from us to check the shade in your own light. The paint is tinted to individual order, so mixed-to-order products are not returnable.
Every colour is tinted to your individual order, so under Polish consumer law (art. 38.1.3 of the Consumer Rights Act) tinted paint cannot be returned. Before you place the order, check the shade on the sample board and calculate the quantity - and check the shade on the borrowed sample-board catalogue before you order the tinting.
Sample board photographs are for illustration only and may differ slightly from the real colours, which is affected by monitor and graphics card settings.
