What is Deserto structural paint by Pigio?
Deserto structural paint is a pearl decorative interior paint by the Italian brand Pigio that creates a delicate, light-diffusing texture on the wall. Its sheen is subtly pearl rather than metallic, so it does not overpower a room.
The paint works as a system with tinted Primer, which sets the background tone for the semi-transparent finish. It is water-based and needs no varnish.
Local repairs without repainting the whole wall
Deserto is made with commercial projects in mind. A damaged spot can be repaired locally with no visible transition - there is no need to repaint the whole wall to restore the texture in one place. That is why it is valued by commercial venues such as restaurants, where chairs constantly scrape against the wall.
Just fill the damage with skim plaster, paint the spot with Primer and then with Deserto - after the repair you cannot tell where the damage was. Marks from children's play or pets are handled the same way.

Painting with Deserto in 2 steps
- Paint the dust-free, primed and grease-free wall with Primer using a roller, in one or two coats, until the coverage is even with no patches showing through. Primer dries in 3-6 hours.
- Apply Deserto with a decorative brush in any direction - chaotically in every direction or diagonally, at an angle. Work at a temperature of at least +8°C and leave the finished wall unvarnished.

Does Deserto paint need a primer?
Yes, primer is essential: for every litre of Deserto you need one litre of Primer, which we tint to the Deserto colour. How do I repair a damaged wall painted with Deserto?

No - Deserto has a subtle pearl sheen rather than a metallic one, so it does not overpower a room. How it looks depends on the colour of the light in the room. If you want more sparkle, add the optional gold or silver glitter.
How does Deserto differ from other sand-effect paints?
Deserto's effect is close to Magnat Perla Sabbia, Ecorson Corado, Guardi, Luxmal Glasser and Valpaint Sabulador. Compared with the popular Sahara paint, it stands out for higher scrub resistance and a texture that is softer to the touch.
Which colours are available?
Deserto comes in 39 colours. Very intense colours with a lot of pigment carry a surcharge, and gold or silver glitter is an optional extra.
Can I return Deserto paint?
No - we tint Deserto to the colour chosen with your order, so it cannot be returned. You can check the shade first with the tester. Buying several tins in one colour? Before painting, combine the paint from all of them in one container so the whole wall has an even shade.
